Stetson Building
Brunswick, ME
2009 - 2010

Designer: Samuel Dunning - Brunswick's 1st

Restoration of an 1880's building that combined popular Mansard with Stick and Queen Anne architectural styles

  • Six family block is currently a ten unit apartment building
  • New boiler rated at 96% energy efficient
  • Cellulose insulation added with R Factor of 50
  • Exterior renovation
  • Complete restoration planned for 2010

Env. Building Center & Green Design Studio
Freeport, ME
2007 & 1998

Designer: Taggart Construction

In 1998, the Environmental Building Center was built by Taggart Construction to demonstrate materials used in energy efficient, environment friendly and occupant healthy construction. The EBC and Green Design Studio, added in 2007, serve both as offices and showrooms of sustainable building practices. Features include:
  • High performance building envelope
  • Passive and active solar heating
  • Environment friendly wood products such as bamboo, Plyboo, cork and Medex formaldehyde-free fiberboard made from recycled content
  • Low-VOC paints and finishes
  • Radiant slab foundation
  • Forest Stewardship Council certified sustainably harvested lumber and wood products

Captain Briggs Bed & Breakfast
Freeport, ME
2002

Designer: Taggart Construction

Removed existing connecting ell between residence and barn. Lifted barn and installed new foundation. Renovated barn including new sills and flooring, interior framing and finishes, new windows, roof and siding. Built new ell connecting residence and barn, created owners living quarters on second floor of barn and rebuilt cupola.

Renovation and construction of 5,000 s.f. buildings for laboratory, teaching facility and exhibit gallery. Built with environmentally friendly methods and materials using energy efficient HVAC Systems

Brewster House Bed & Breakfast
Freeport, ME
1994

Designer: Carol Wilson, AIA

Taggart Construction’s first project was the renovation of an 1888 Queen Anne 3-family residence into the Brewster House Bed & Breakfast. Work started in January 1994 and the B&B opened for the 4th of July weekend 1994 (on time as planned)!
  • Gutted most of the first and second floor of plaster, removing all old wiring and plumbing
  • Framed new B&B rooms, all with private bathrooms
  • New wiring, plumbing, sprinkler system and fire alarm hard-wired to the Freeport Dispatch Center
  • New insulation and sheetrock, followed by replacement of original trim and doors that had been removed, labeled and stored
  • Repaired original tin ceiling in new dining room
  • Installed new kitchen
  • Replaced wooden gutters & built new side porch as primary entrance for B&B
  • Coordinated work environment & schedules to allow for as many as 7 companies with multiple employees to work in a cooperative environment which resulted in the project finishing on time and the B&B owners opening for the busy 4th of July weekend
